At a conference this weekend, I learned that the NSF has a grant-making program on the science of organizations. Maybe everyone but me knew this, but I thought I'd mention it to our membership in case I wasn't alone in my ignorance. From their latest call for proposals:
"SoO funds research that advances our fundamental understanding of how organizations develop, form and operate. Successful SoO research proposals use scientific methods to develop and refine theories, to empirically test theories and frameworks, and to develop new measures and methods. Funded research is aimed at yielding generalizable insights that are of value to the business practitioner, policy-maker and research communities."
This sounds a lot like much of the work our members do, and I think many of the projects I've seen presented at SIOE over the past few years would have been very competitive for funding. I hope some of you look into it.
