SIOE 2020 Conference: No In-Person Meeting (but small online event)

By Tore Ellingsen and Bob Gibbons

Dear SIOE Members,

We hope you and yours are all as well as possible in these unsettling times.

We write with news that is disappointing to us and probably expected by you: after substantial deliberation and consultation, we have decided that there will not be an in-person SIOE conference in 2020.

Instead, some parts of the conference will occur on-line:

  • The program of accepted papers and sessions will be published on SIOE’s website. Authors of accepted papers will have the opportunity to post their paper in their session.
  • There will also be on-line announcements of the awards that were to be presented at this year’s conference: the Ronald Coase award for best dissertation, the Oliver Williamson award for best conference paper, and the Douglas North award for best book published in the prior two years.
  • There may be selected aspects of the conference live-streamed on the conference dates, Thursday June 18 to Saturday June 20. To account for time zones, these streamed aspects may be recorded and posted.

The Executive Committee and Program Committee for the conference have almost finished the conference program, so decisions on accepted papers will come soon—in early April.

The Board and Executive Committee are now discussing different contents and formats that could be live-streamed. Details on this will come later—probably in early May.

Again, our very best wishes to you and yours. We look forward to seeing you in 2021.

Bob Gibbons, President Elect
